Terms & Conditions

Your Order

We always try our best to make you aware of all of our terms and conditions during your meeting with us but it is worth checking through them here to be sure.  Please check the details of your order and if you have any queries please let us know.  We are always happy to advise on any concerns you may have.

All fitting dates are estimates and are given in good faith.  We will make appointments with fitting and tradesmen on your behalf.  Due to the nature of the work exact arrival times cannot be guaranteed.

When the ‘delivery only’ option has been chosen delivery is to the delivery address only and not to a specific room. Exact colour and texture matching between separate pieces of carpet, and especially between 4m and 5m rolls, cannot be guaranteed.  All carpets and vinyls are sold and cut to the nearest 10cm in length.  You must order a minimum of 1 metre in length.

All sizes are approximate and within a tolerance of +/- 1.25% in accordance with BS3655.  If your room is closer to the nominal width of the carpet please allow extra carpet in case a join is required.

Delivery and Fitting

Rooms must be cleared of furniture and old floor coverings before the fitters arrival.  If you’ll struggle to do this then let us know because arrangements must be made with the fitter in advance.  An additional charge may be made for this work.  Failure to clear rooms prior to fitting may result in delays and/or the inability to carry out the work at the appointed time.  Out & About Carpets accept no liability for such delays.

Fitters/Tradesman carry out their work with reasonable care and skill but even with the greatest care home décor may be marked or scuffed during the fitting process.  New paintwork and wallpaper should be allowed to fully dry and harden before fitting.  A minimum of two weeks is recommended.  We will go through this with you during your appointment.

Door Shaving

Doors may need to be trimmed to allow clearance. This is not part of the fitting work unless this has been specifically agreed.  This is specialised carpentry work which carpet fitters are unable to undertake.  In the event that the doors do not have sufficient clearance for the carpet the fitters may remove the doors.  This will allow fitting and leave the doors ready for you or your appointed carpenter to carry out the trimming and rehanging.

Waste & Off-Cuts

All trimmings, offcuts and wastage is the customer’s own property.  Out & About Carpets cannot dispose of this for you unless you have made arrangements with ourselves to do this on your behalf.  The local authority consider this as trade waste, but it can be disposed of by yourself free of charge at your local tip.

Our Sub-Contracted Tradesmen

Out & About Carpets act as agents for local independent, self-employed, floor-covering installers and tradesmen. We can arrange for one of these to deliver and/or fit your purchase.  This will be under a separate agreement between you and them. Out & About Carpets retain full responsibility for the products and services we supply and the deliverer/installer/tradesman is responsible for the standard and quality of, and any liability arising from, delivery and/or installation/workmanship.

Fitting is guaranteed for 12 months by the fitter/tradesman. Any charges are payable direct to the fitter/tradesman on completion of the work to ensure satisfactory fitting.   Should you wish this arrangement to take place, payment is due direct to the fitter/tradesman. All fitters who are agents for Out & About Carpets have public liability insurance.

All genuine complaints will be dealt with in good faith.

Inspect Your New Floor Covering

Please ensure that the floor covering received is the one you ordered, the correct colour and size.  You must inspect it for apparent faults by yourself and your fitter before fitting commences.  If, upon inspection, you have any doubts please contact Out & About Carpets immediately.  In all cases genuine complaints with be dealt with in good faith.


Flattening of the Pile

Carpet is a soft, luxurious product and flattening of the pile will occur as a natural result of use.  The sides of the pile appear a slightly different shade in colour to the ends.  Therefore, any flattening will change the apparent colour of the carpet.  It can sometimes look patchy when the use of the carpet varies in different areas.  Such shading and flattening is not a fault.  Areas with busy foot traffic, twists and turns (near stairs and in front of seating) can be especially prone to such changes in appearance.

Berber carpets use random blends of colours which as a result may give a lined effect. These characteristics do not affect the wearing properties of the carpet.  During transportation and storage carpet pile may become slightly flattened and this may show as shaded bands across the pile.  These will disappear as the carpet settles into its new environment and as the pile is flexed through use and vacuum cleaning.


All carpets benefit from the installation of a good quality underlay.  Re-using existing underlay may result in abnormal flattening of the pile and invalidate manufacturers wear warranties.  The samples used by Out & About Carpets are intended to give a general impression of the colour and pattern.  When fitted to a larger area some patterns and apparently random blends of yarn can have a striped effect which is inherent of the pattern.

Cancellations and Refunds

Your order is a legally binding contract and can only be cancelled if we are in breach of contract.  As your goods are prepared to your specific requirements we incur increasing costs as your order progresses and we may make a charge to reflect these costs if you breach the contract.
